Software packages, development environments and technolgies used
PHP	PHP is currently my preferred development tool as it offers a simple yet powerful environment which is well integrated with MySQL. Also important is it is free
MySQL	MySQL offers an excellent scalable RDMS. Again it is free and Open Source, ensuring that it will remain a popular solution for economic web solutions
Javascript	A good knowledge and understanding of Javascript is essential for any web page developer
Cascading style sheets	Cascading style sheets are the best way to ensure consistency across websites and give any site that professional 'feel'. Currently I use Topstyle Pro to edit style sheets
Dreamweaver	After learning HTML using Notepad and experimenting with early versions of Frontpage, I migrated to Dreamweaver and have continued to use it since version 1
Perl	Before moving to PHP, I used Perl extensively to develop database connectivity for a large number of sites. I continue to maintain these sites and also have been contracted to maintain sites developed by others in Perl
Visual Basic	I have developed a number of applications using Visual Basic, either as stand alone packages or as macros in Microsoft Office applications
Access	Clients frequently require me to assist them in making Access databases accessible via their website
Superbase	This is one of the earliest relational database packages for Windows and was used by the Disabled Living Foundation. I developed many in-house applications using Superbase and also a Multimedia CDRom which sold as a commercial package
OpenOffice	I have started using OpenOffice as an alternative to MS Office, mainly because it is Open Source and free
Textpattern CMS	I have worked on and developed a number of sites using this Open Source Content Management System
Zen Shopping Cart	I have installed this online shopping cart system on a number of sites
